Pura D’OR Shampoo
PURA D'OR Original Gold Label Anti-Thinning Biotin Shampoo (16oz) w/ Argan Oil, Nettle Extract, Saw Palmetto, Red Seaweed, 17+ DHT Herbal Actives, No Sulfates, Natural Preservatives, For Men & Women
I’ve been using this Pura D’OR Shampoo for years with great results. I originally purchased it to help with a receding hairline. While I obviously cannot say for sure if it has prevented further recession, I can say that I immediately noticed less hair falling out and more overall thickness in my hair, which continues to this day. It doesn’t LOOK like my hair is continuing to recede, but I can’t tell if that’s observation bias or just my genetics.
I took off a star because of the confusing nature of these products. They originally marketed this shampoo (gold label) as an “anti-hair loss”. However, since doing some tests and analyzing user reviews, they wanted to include their results with the claim “anti-hair thinning”. I’m guessing this sparked thousands of questions and emails (including one from me) because now they actually specify this name change on their Amazon page to clarify. Yes, the ingredients are the same as the former anti-hair loss gold label bottle, but myself and other users have noticed a difference in viscosity, foaming amount, and smell with the new bottle. They say none of the ingredients changed, so things could just vary slightly bottle to bottle due to the nature of how they are produced, or maybe they changed HOW they make it and not what they put into it, but I’m not 100% sure.
Another point to make is that the “anti-hair loss’ version of this shampoo used to contain ketoconazole, but it is no longer in this formula. People using this shampoo have been upset by this change because they felt the keto was improving their hair and noticed changes when it was removed. They WANTED that “anti-hair loss” shampoo to be all about anti-hair loss, but things have changed slightly. I have personally continued to see good results using this formula. However, it does appear that ketoconazole IS in the “Maximum Defense” bottle, which is the only bottle that currently contains it and the formula has the exact same ingredients as the gold label but with the addition of the keto and coal tar extract. Personally, I might switch to the max defense bottle and see if I like it better since my personal reason for using this is to prevent hair loss and ketoconazole has been shown to have positive results in hair loss and DHT blocking.
Hopefully this review helps to clear up any of the confusion with these product changes and you can make an informed decision on which formula you want to try, but overall I stand behind these products and I will continue to use them every day.Promised Review By Vincent
