I’ve been playing with this Microscope For iPhone for a little while, now, and I think I can offer some useful feedback.
1. If you are connecting with your phone via Wi-Fi, make sure you check the box that says to stay connected even though there is no internet. Most phones will disconnect from a Wi-Fi hotspot that has no internet by default.
2. Related: if you are connecting with your phone via Wi-Fi, your phone is no longer connected to the internet via Wi-Fi. Don’t forget to switch back to your actually-connected-to-the-internet Wi-Fi when you are done.
3. For highest magnification, you will need to basically rest the tip of the scope on the surface you are viewing. You can adjust the stand to stay in this position. (See photo.)
4. I didn’t have any trouble with the app. I was a bit confused by the interface at first, but the selection menu disappears when you tap the screen.
5. It’s a bit difficult to adjust the focus, because any tiny movement is magnified. But the good news is, if you keep the tip of the scope flat against the surface you are viewing on. The focus should stay basically the same, and you just have to worry about moving from side to side by infinitesimal amounts.
6. The display on your phone lines up with one side of the scope. To make movements easier, line your phone up with a straight edge in the image, so that left is left and right is right and up is and down is.
7. I didn’t think I was getting the full 1000x magnification, so I put a ruler under the scope. (Aside: My ruler is way more scratched up than I realized!) Those two lines are 1 mm apart. On my phone screen, they measure 5 cm apart, which is a 500x magnification. So, if you want 1000x, you should be able to get that if you’re using a bigger screen, like a computer monitor.
8. The base of the stand is a little weird. It looks like it was supposed to have some kind of sturdy bottom, but they just glued a piece of foam there instead.
