Airthings Radon Detector is very nice product. After reading some negative reviews I was hesitant to buy Airthings wave though I loved the idea of integrating Radon sensor with IoTs in an affordable price. I bought the device knowing that I can return it if it failed to connect.

Surprisingly the setup was very easy and didn’t bother me at all. I have many spare old phone. I repurposed one to stay near the sensor and sync data to the web. The phone also works as Lullaby player for kids!

Starting October I saw sudden jumps of levels to above 200 Bq/m3 (maximum allowed by Canadian health). It happens twice a month or so. I call them Radon farts! It made me worried. I had to open windows and let fresh air come in to the kids room many times. But this was not convenient specially that these farts happen mostly in cold winter.

After a bit I found out I can put a fan in the basement right under kids room and ventilate the dirty air out before it reaches upstairs. I bought a bathroom fan and placed it under the joists in the basement and plugged it into a smart plug. I scheduled it to run sometimes a day. But then I realized this is not efficient and makes the basement cold.
